During this years Onam celebrations we had a Pookkalam competition at school. PookKalam is the flower bed or flower arrangements done during Onam in Kerala.
The children were separated house and section wise and asked to come up with a theme for their Pookkalam. The children and support staff made some truly beautiful Pookkalam's!
Benzene is a clear, colourless, highly flammable and volatile liquid aromatic hydrocarbon with a gasoline-like odour. It is present in crude oil and is produced as a by-product when we refine crude oils. Benzene is a multipurpose compound, serving its use in a variety of different fields. It primarily acts as a raw material or ‘building blocks’ to produce other industrial chemicals such as phenols and toluene
The Grade 4 students read different poems, from Emily Dickenson, to 'poems' by their favourite musicians and their teachers too.
They discovered that poems often make comparisons between two completely different things. Ever heard of comparing a head of hair to a piano? Or a voice to melting ice cream? Or loneliness to an island?
I am from the black and white coffee mug in my kitchen,
From the superhero and villain drawings on it that inspire me.
I am from the bright orange splash of paint that lights up my room,
The scent of petrichor that wakes me up.
I am from the Amaryllis plant that blooms every year,
The old hollow tree that is my ‘Terabithia.’
We asked some of the children from Grade 1 to write about their experience at BIS. The children wrote some beautiful pieces.
